This concert was recorded on May 17, 2011 at The Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center in Maryland as part of Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan’s US tour. Although he records extensively, this film offers the audience a performance typically only witnessed by those fortunate enough to see Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan perform live in concert. Accompanied by Enayet Hossain on Table, this concert video is sure to be enjoyed by any fan of Indian Classical music, and includes the following performance:

About The DVD:
This DVD offers more than 76 minutes of live concert footage, with chapters dividing each section of the Raga for easy navigation. This DVD also features an educational video featurette which explains the meaning of the different terms used in Indian Classical music. The featurette takes the viewer through actual portions of the performance and defines phrases such as Jod, Jhala, and Teental in terms of their relevance to the music being performed, such as Jod being the connecting portion in Aalap between the rhythmic and non rhythmic portions.
About The Performers:
Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan is one of the finest sitar players alive today. His dazzling virtuosity and innovative genius have earned him a legacy as a giant of the sitar. Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan learned his craft from his father, Ustad Aziz Khan, and enjoys an impeccable pedigree. He is a seventh generation heir to the sitar’s first family, the Etawah Gharana. Shahid s global reputation as an awe inspiring performer is complemented by another rare gift – his ability to spread his music as a dedicated and loving guru. Ustad Shahid Parvez Khan sums up his mastery of this most intricate art form with a profoundly simple philosophy: “Music is my life.”
Enayet Hossain comes from a musical family, the grandson of Famed Musician, Ustad Kader Buksh of Murshidabad, India and the son and disciple of Ustad Hamid Hossain, he is an accomplished tabla player of the present generation. Enayet has accompanied the biggest names in Indian music, including, Ustad Vilayat Khan, Pandit Jasraj, Salamat Ali Khan, Shujaat Khan, Budhaditya Mukherjee and many more. He was raised in the United States and has a degree in computer science from the University Of Maryland. He is also the creator of Sangeetpedia, a multi-media encyclopedia of Indian music. He has many CD audio releases to his credit.
Ustad Vilayat Khan Tribute Concert
About the Concert: The Concert was held at Princeton University on April 11th, 2015 in tribute to the late great sitarist Aftab-E-Sitar Ustad Vilayat Khan to commemorate his life and work by the Vilayat Khan Foundation. The concert brought together musicians from all over the world. The concert was recorded live and was not specifically going to be released, however the music was so amazing we decided to go ahead and release the concert. Please note, this is a LIVE recording and ambient sounds can be heard but rest assured, the noises do not take away from the music.

About The Artists: Hidayat Khan comes from a lineage that has shaped and defined the Sitar. Son and disciple of the late legendary sitarist, Ustad Vilayat Khan, Hidayat has played throughout the world enthralling audiences playing the traditional classical music, his leneage is so renowned for or collaborating with world musicians and creating music that has a fusion twist to it. Either way, Hidayat’s music definitely touches the soul. Accompanying him on the tabla is Enayet Hossain, a third generation musician, son and disciple of the renowned USA based teacher, Ustad Hamid Hossain. Enayet has played with numerous top rated musicians throughout his career including Ustad Vilayat Khan, Pandit Jasraj, Shujaat Khan to name a few. Enayet provides very subtle and non-intrusive accompaniment and has many cds and dvds to his credit.
